Student Art Awards Applications

Are you a creative student in Whistler, Pemberton, or Mt. Currie?
Here is your chance to be recognized.

Since 1987, Arts Whistler has been recognizing artistic achievement in the visual, literary, performing and media arts as demonstrated by graduating students from elementary and secondary schools in Whistler, Pemberton, and Mt. Currie.

Applications from Grade 7 and Grade 12 students will be accepted as of February 24, 2020.

Applications open: February 24, 2020
Deadline for submissions: May 1, 2020

Student Art Awards – Grade 7 Application

The Arts Whistler Student Art Award is awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated artistic achievement in the visual, literary, performing or media arts.
Awards of $100 are given to individuals graduating Grade 7 from schools in Whistler, Pemberton and Mt. Currie. Eligible students must also reside in Whistler, Pemberton or Mt. Currie.

Eligibility:
Students applying in the categories of visual, media and literary arts are required to present to the jury:
• A portfolio of 3-5 (minimum 3) recent works that were not completed as part of a school project.
• A brief description of each piece and why it is important to you.
• Portfolio viewing times will be scheduled for Wednesday May 6, 2020 at the Maury Young Arts Centre between 4-8pm.

Students applying in the categories of dance, theatre and music are required to present to the jury:
• One or more pieces not completed as part of a school project, 5 minutes maximum performance time.
• 5-minute Question & Answer with the jury following your performance.
• Showcase times will be scheduled for Thursday May 7, 2020 at the Maury Young Arts Centre between 4-8pm.

All submissions will be scored to determine the award winner for each school. Three jury members will rate your work under the following categories:
• Creativity and originality
• Talent
• Composition
• Overall Presentation
